Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups (280 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup (225 g) butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup (150 g) granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup (165 g) brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups (340 g) chocolate chips

How to cook chocolate chip cookies step by step

  1. Heat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line two sheet pans with parchment.
  2. Whisk flour, baking soda, and salt together.
  3. Beat the butter with both sugars until pale and fluffy, about 3 minutes.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then the vanilla.
  5. Fold in the dry mix just until no flour shows, then stir in the chocolate chips.
  6. Scoop tablespoon-sized mounds two inches apart and bake 9–11 minutes, until the edges set but the centers look underdone.
  7. Cool on the pan 5 minutes before moving to a rack.

Chef's tips

  • Chilling the dough an hour deepens flavor and stops spreading.
  • Pull them a minute early — carryover heat finishes the centers.
